The SYNCRATM Oxo-C3 process is BASF’s proprietary technology for producing propionaldehyde.
At the core of the process is a hydroformylation reaction (also called oxo reaction), where ethylene reacts with oxo gas (CO and H₂) in the presence of a catalyst. The reaction is carried out under moderate pressure and temperature, yielding an excellent selectivity. The solution is well-scalable and very lean. Licensees benefit from an efficient heat integration concept and a robust catalyst system.
