SYNCRATM Oxo-C9

SYNCRATM Oxo-C9 offers a proven and scalable solution for producing low-branched isononanol (INA) at exceptional purity. This key intermediate in the manufacture of the high-performance plasticizer diisononyl phthalate (DINP) experiences very positive market dynamics. SYNCRATM Oxo-C9 can be integrated with SYNCRATM IOC and SYNCRATM HPIB, offering a comprehensive solution for refineries and petrochemical complexes seeking value-adding options for their C4 streams.

In the SYNCRATM Oxo-C9 process, isononanol (or isononyl alcohol), a higher C9 oxo alcohol, is manufactured by reacting C8 olefins (isooctenes) with oxo gas (hydroformylation) in the presence of a cobalt-containing catalyst, and subsequently hydrogenating the intermediate C9 aldehydes. The resulting product is of high purity, meeting all necessary quality standards for the production of plasticizers.

The technology can be seamlessly integrated with BASF's technology for the production of the precursor isooctene, SYNCRATM IOC.

High Product Purity

The process yields INA with high purity, meeting stringent requirements for premium plasticizer applications. The downstream plasticizer DINP meets the growing demands from sectors like infrastructure, construction and automotive.

Proven Reliability - For More Than 50 Years

BASF is the first licensor to offer an Oxo-C9 technology with commercial-scale operating references to the market. The long, safe and reliable operating record of our assets proves their robust technology concept and the success of continuous improvement efforts.

Integrated Process from C4 to INA

SYNCRATM Oxo-C9 can easily be integrated with other BASF technology solutions, creating a streamlined value chain all the way from C4 feedstock to high-purity isononanol (INA). This integrated technology set-up from one single licensor reduces complexity, improves efficiency, and enables a focussed project development.
