Biomass Balanced (BMBcert™) Intermediates

Accelerate renewable feedstock in value chains

When you choose a biomass balanced product, we replace 100% of the fossil raw materials which are normally needed for production of the product with renewable feedstock in our Verbund production set-up. The renewable carbon content cannot be physically identified in the final product, but the renewable share is fully attributed to it. This methodology is called biomass balance. To ensure transparency, compliance with mass balance standards like REDcert² and ISCC PLUS is independently certified for each biomass balanced intermediate.

Isononanoic Acid BMBcert™

Isononanoic acid is a monofunctional carboxylic acid intermediate used as a monomer in the synthesis of alkyd resins for stoving enamels and two-component paints (primers and topcoats). Paint driers based on metal salts are also produced with i-nonanoic acid.

Ethylhexanoic Acid BMBcert™

2-Ethylhexanoic (2-EHA) acid is a versatile monocarboxylic acid. In coatings, 2-EHA is used in the synthesis of alkyd resins and provides improved yellowing resistance compared to the standard fatty acids. It is particularly suitable for stoving enamels and two-component coatings. Further applications include automotive, lubricants, personal care and more.

Dimethylformamide (DMF) is an excellent polar aprotic solvent that is miscible with water and with most other organic solvents. DMF is a clear liquid with high boiling point. It is used in a variety of industrial applications.
