Product Carbon Footprint: Customer Information

Reliable information about the carbon footprint of your input materials

Transparent PCF Communication
BASF is one of the first major chemical companies to provide customers with the individual carbon footprints (PCFs) of all its sales products. With access to BASF’s PCF values, customers can better evaluate their greenhouse gas emissions from sourcing and calculate the PCFs of their own products.

How we calculate our PCFs

The PCF values BASF provides its customers are so called cradle-to-gate values. A cradle-to-gate PCF comprises the total greenhouse gas emissions that occur until the BASF product leaves the factory gate for the customer: from the extraction of resources through manufacturing of precursors to the making of the final chemical product itself.

BASF’s product carbon footprint (PCF) calculations follow the requirements and guidance given by ISO 14067:2018. In a methodology review, TÜV Rheinland has certified that the PCF methodology SCOTT developed and used by BASF SE for calculating the PCFs of BASF products is scientifically-based, is in accordance with ISO 14067:2018 and the  Together for Sustainability - The Product Carbon Footprint Guideline for the Chemical Industry, version 3.0 - December 2024, and reflects the state of the art  (ID-Nr. 0000080389: BASF SE - Certipedia).
