Use case: High-temperature PEM Fuel Cells
Hydrogen and oxygen in fuel cells react in a controlled manner to produce water and in doing so, generate electricity and heat very efficiently. High-temperature PEM fuel cells are particularly suited for operation with reformate gas from methanol, bio-gas or natural gas, for example. Fuel cells in aircraft, cars, trains and ships can generate electricity rapidly and with low exhaust emissions.
Fuel cells can be used either for an entire electricity supply or for continuous battery charging. A combination of fuel cells and batteries allows the advantages of both technologies to be exploited. With the aid of fuel cells, therefore, battery-driven vehicles can cover longer distances.
