Energy efficiency and innovation at the core
BASF’s EPS insulation raw materials make a contribution to achieving global CO2 reduction targets in the building sector. In particular, insulating the building envelope lowers greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the energy required for heating and cooling residential buildings.
With Neopor®, BASF sets new benchmarks in energy efficient construction. Thanks to the continuous development of this insulation raw material, Neopor® reliably meets both current and future requirements for energy efficiency and resource conservation.
BASF offers a comprehensive Neopor® product portfolio that covers all areas of construction. Thanks to its versatility, Neopor® is ideally suited for both new builds and renovation projects – across all climate zones.

Neopor® – setting the benchmark for sustainable construction
For around 30 years, Neopor® from BASF has stood for efficient and resource-saving insulation. Compared to white EPS, Neopor® delivers superior insulation performance thanks to graphite particles – while requiring less material. This has quickly made Neopor® the preferred insulation material for architects, builders, and contractors. The combination of performance, cost-efficiency, and sustainability remains unmatched to this day.
Enhanced insulation performance with Neopor®
The outstanding performance of insulation materials made from Neopor® offers clear advantages for architects, engineers, contractors, and building owners in practical applications. Neopor® contains graphite particles that act as infrared absorbers and reflectors. Compared to conventional EPS, this enables the production of insulation boards with up to 20% improved thermal performance.
Thermal conductivity
Neopor® achieves significantly improved insulation performance, particularly in low-density insulation materials. As illustrated in the diagram, insulation materials made from Neopor® with a density of 15 kg/m³ can achieve a thermal conductivity of 0.031 W/(m·K). Standard EPS with the same density typically has a thermal conductivity of 0.037 W/(m·K).

More than a raw material
Beyond its material advantages, Neopor® delivers added value across the entire value chain.
Reliable partnership
Customers and partners benefit from BASF’s long-standing product and application expertise in insulation materials. This is complemented by hands-on technical support – also directly on site when needed.
Proven quality with substance
For decades, BASF has set benchmarks in quality and safety. A strong research and production infrastructure “made in Germany,” along with numerous reference projects across Europe, demonstrate the proven performance of Neopor® since its market launch in 1998.
Consistently reliable – today and in the long term
Neopor® stands for consistently high product quality, stable material properties, and excellent reproducibility over many years. Comprehensive quality controls, standardized processes, and continuous development ensure a consistently high level of performance.
Tested, compliant, and proven in practice
The quality of Neopor® is reflected not only in the raw material itself, but also in its reliable processing, high process stability in insulation manufacturing, and long-term durability in buildings. Neopor® meets relevant European standards and is regularly tested.
This ensures that foam producers, system providers, planners, architects, and end users are ideally equipped with Neopor® – from planning and processing to sustainable performance throughout the entire lifecycle of a building.

Facade insulation with Neopor® – efficient and reliable
Tailored solutions for every facade
External thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) based on Styropor® have proven their performance in practice for more than five decades – thanks to easy handling, cost-efficiency, and durability. Insulation boards made from Neopor® continue this tradition and, with their enhanced insulation performance, provide a highly efficient solution for modern facade insulation.
Neopor® – efficient insulation for sustainable building envelopes
Whether for new builds or refurbishment projects, Neopor® provides the ideal foundation for sustainable and durable building envelopes. With product variants such as Neopor® F 5000 Plus, BASF offers a high-performance portfolio for energy-efficient and future-oriented facade solutions. The insulation boards enable cost-effective and reliable thermal insulation, are easy to process, and offer excellent long-term durability – making them ideal for the energy-efficient renovation of existing buildings.
Combining design flexibility and safety
In addition to their technical performance, Neopor® insulation systems also offer high design flexibility. The products are fiber-free, safe to handle, and easy to process – benefiting both contractors and building owners. Long-term studies by renowned research institutes confirm the lasting stability and functionality of EPS insulation systems. Existing ETICS systems with EPS that no longer meet today’s energy standards can be upgraded easily and safely by adding an additional layer of Neopor® insulation boards – without requiring dismantling.
Future-ready facade insulation with Neopor®
With Neopor®, building owners, architects, and renovation professionals choose a proven facade insulation solution that combines maximum energy efficiency, durability, and an excellent cost-performance ratio. With more than 10 million square meters installed each year, Neopor® boards are the most widely used grey facade insulation materials in Europe – clear evidence of trust and quality.
A strong team:
flat roofs insulated with Neopor® and PV systems
Efficient flat roof refurbishment with future potential
During the refurbishment of a flat roof, an additional insulation layer made of Neopor® boards is installed. This upgrade brings the roof up to current energy efficiency standards and creates optimal conditions for the subsequent installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems.
Neopor® – proven performance in flat roof insulation
For decades, Neopor® insulation materials have been among the reliable solutions for flat roof applications. With products such as Neopor® F 5 PRO and Neopor® F 5000 Plus, BASF offers a comprehensive portfolio tailored to the specific requirements of flat roof constructions.

Neopor® BMB
With Neopor® BMB, BASF demonstrates how technological innovation and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. Insulation materials made of Neopor® help reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling over decades – thereby lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Choosing Neopor® today means making a conscious decision for a sustainable future – without compromising quality, safety, or cost-efficiency. It is a material that not only protects buildings, but also the climate.
Neopor® BMB combines advanced technology with environmental responsibility. The insulation materials reduce energy demand and make an active contribution to climate protection over the long term. With the introduction of biomass-balanced Neopor® BMB, BASF takes sustainability one step further: fossil resources are replaced with renewable feedstocks at the very beginning of the production process – while maintaining the same level of quality and performance. This reduces the carbon footprint of the insulation raw material by up to 100% – a strong statement for responsible construction.
Choosing Neopor® means choosing a future-ready solution that protects both buildings and the environment.
