BASF’s Polyamides and Precursors business makes Ultramid® polyamides (Nylon 6, Nylon 66 and Nylon 6/66) and their monomers/intermediates for the packaging film, wire and cable jacketing, engineering plastics, carpet fiber, textile fiber and monofilament markets.
Where do you produce Polyamides and Precursors globally?
BASF produces Ultramid® Nylon 6 polyamides as well as their intermediates at sites in North America, Europe and Asia. The hub for North American production is our Freeport, Texas Verbund site. Nylon 6/66 and Nylon 66 and intermediates are produced in Europe and Asia.
Do you offer sustainable solutions?
BASF is involved in many projects and initiatives that strengthen the idea of a circular economy for plastics and prevent plastics from entering the environment. BASF is a member of the World Plastics Council and takes part in two Ellen MacArthur Foundation programs. At all of its sites worldwide, BASF implements “Operation Clean Sweep,” an international initiative of the plastics industry aimed at preventing the loss of plastic pellets into the environment. Furthermore, BASF co-founded the global “Alliance to End Plastic Waste” (AEPW) in 2019, which has grown to about 50 companies in the plastics value chain.

What is Verbund?
Verbund integration is at the core of our business philosophy and is one of BASF’s main strengths. In our Verbund system, integrated processes consume less energy, minimize emissions, produce higher product yields and conserve resources. BASF currently operates six Verbund sites worldwide: two in North America, two in Europe and two in Asia.
